Conformance Status
SunSeed Kitchen strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AAA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.
Accessibility Features
We have implemented the following accessibility features across the SunSeed Kitchen platform:
Visual Design
- High contrast ratios — All text meets WCAG AAA contrast requirements (7:1 minimum ratio)
- Scalable text — All typography uses relative units (rem) and respects browser zoom up to 200%
- Color independence — Information is never conveyed by color alone; icons and text labels supplement color indicators
- Consistent design tokens — Uniform spacing, colors, and typography across all pages
Navigation & Interaction
- Keyboard navigation — All interactive elements are fully operable with keyboard only (Tab, Enter, Escape, Arrow keys)
- Visible focus indicators — 3px solid outline on all focused elements with adequate offset
- Skip to content links — Available on every page to bypass navigation
- Touch targets — Minimum 44×44px touch target size for buttons and interactive elements
- No keyboard traps — Focus management in modals and dialogs allows escape at all times
Content & Structure
- Semantic HTML — Proper use of headings (h1–h6), landmarks (header, nav, main, footer), and ARIA labels
- Alt text for images — All recipe images include descriptive alternative text
- Form labels — All form inputs have associated labels and error messages
- Page titles — Every page has a unique, descriptive title
- Language attribute — HTML lang attribute is set to "en" on all pages
Media & Motion
- Reduced motion — Animations respect the
prefers-reduced-motionmedia query - No auto-playing media — No audio or video content plays automatically
- Image fallbacks — Placeholder images and error handlers ensure graceful degradation when images fail to load
Technologies Used
SunSeed Kitchen relies on the following technologies for accessibility:
- HTML5 with semantic markup

- JavaScript with progressive enhancement
- ARIA attributes for dynamic content
- WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices for interactive components
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some limitations currently exist:
- Third-party content — Some embedded third-party services (payment processing via Stripe) may have their own accessibility limitations
- User-generated content — Community posts and comments may not always include alternative text for uploaded images
- Complex recipe data — Some nutritional data tables may benefit from additional ARIA markup for screen readers
We are actively working to address these limitations.
Testing
We test accessibility using a combination of:
- Automated testing with Playwright and axe-core
- Manual keyboard navigation testing
- Screen reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver)
- Color contrast analysis tools
- Browser developer tools accessibility audits
